Contra Costa NOW Scholarship

Contra Costa NOW is a San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the National Organization for Women, one of the oldest and most prominent feminist organizations in the US. For the first time Contra Costa NOW is offering one $1,000 scholarship to a woman of color enrolled in a non-profit accredited college or university, either in a two-year or four-year academic program. We are looking to support a woman who has demonstrated leadership as an activist in her community. Contra Costa NOW is committed to enabling marginalized women. We have earmarked this scholarship to support and uplift women of color and help support women’s education.

APPLICATION PERIOD DEADLINE APRIL 30, 2021.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Permanent residency in Contra Costa County
  • Academic record of at least one prior semester in an accredited non-profit college or university (located in Contra Costa County or other)
  • Enrollment in or transfer to an accredited non-profit college or university for Fall 2021
  • GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Copy of official transcript from most recent college or university
  • Digital photo
  • Name and address of academic institution to be attended in Fall 2021
  • One letter of recommendation from someone who can assess your academic and/or personal achievements and community activism, for example, a professor, teacher, mentor, organization member, etc.
  • Essay (500 -1,000 words) typewritten, double spaced in Word or PDF on the applicant’s experiences in some aspect of community activism, providing information about the organizations or communities served or particular volunteer activities.
